Ginkgo biloba 50 gram

The Ginkgo Biloba is a Japanese Nut tree which is originally from China. The leaves are used for a better concentration and to improve the memory. The Japanese Nut Tree is also called the Temple Tree or the Duck Leg Tree. The species was originally from China, but it is no longer known in the wild. The plant is seen as a living fossil because it is the only remaining species of both the Ginkgo genus and the Ginkgoaceae family.

Effects and ingredients

The ancient medicinal plant from China is quite rich in flavonoids and terpenoids, which gives it a strong anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effect. Extracts made with this plant seem to have several health benefits that are mainly related to the improvement of arterial, cerebral and peripheral blood flow. Due to its action in brain stimulation, Ginkgo is known as a natural elixir for mental health. However, this plant also has many other benefits related to circulatory, eye and heart health.

The seeds of the Japanese nut tree are said to have been used in China for thousands of years for respiratory problems, bladder and kidney problems, digestive problems, hearing loss and other ailments. The leaves are used, among other things, to improve blood circulation , respiratory problems, hearing loss, memory loss, skin diseases and anxiety.

Another health benefit from Ginkgo is that it could relieve the symptoms of anxiety and stress. This is shown in a study published in the Journal of Psychiatric Research found that people with a generalized anxiety disorder who used ginkgo reported better anxiety relief than people taking a placebo.

Some claims suggest that ginkgo improves blood microcirculation, increasing the amount of oxygen available in various parts of the body. One of those places is the brain and, therefore, the use of this plant could, according to these claims, facilitate thinking and increase concentration. In addition, as it also has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant action, the continued use of Ginkgo biloba also seems to prevent the emergence of mental fatigue, especially in very active people.

Studies on brain health

The studies on this subject are somewhat contradictory. For instance: a review of studies from 2017 showed that ginkgo biloba could improve cognitive function for people with dementia, while a meta-analysis from 2012 found no evidence that the supplement provides brain-benefit for healthy people. Because of a lack of study material, there is no certain answer as to if, how and why ginkgo works in our body. Still there are many cases of people using ginkgo with positive effects.

Use of Ginkgo Biloba

The crushed leaves are often used to make an extract or tea. The recommended doses vary from 4 to 12 grams per day.
