Can you use psychedelics such as magic mushrooms, magic truffles, mescaline cacti and ayahuasca to save your relationship? Maybe. At least that's what one certain therapist is convinced of. She is a licensed clinical social worker with over 25 years of experience as a relationship therapist, and works for an organization that trains therapists to incorporate psychedelic integration into their own practices.

In an interesting interview with GQ, the therapist opened up about her work with psychedelics, and as you'd expect, it's packed with interesting tidbits! And Avalon Magic Plants wouldn’t be your number one stop for psychedelics if we wouldn’t get right into this, would we? Let’s take a look at the power of magic mushrooms, love and relationships!

Can Magic Mushrooms Save Your Relationship?

About 40 years ago in the 1970s, the woman herself was crazy about magic mushrooms. She traveled with friends through the mountains of South America and gained so much experience with psychedelic trips. "My God .. This would be so good for the world," she thought as the mushrooms started to work. Decades later, science seems to agree: psychedelic integration in different settings is increasingly mainstream. For example, the US state of Oregon legalized psilocybin last fall to make more research possible.

She now works for Fluence, an organization that trains therapists to incorporate psychedelic integration into their own practices. She cannot recommend (and cannot legally administer) MDMA or psilocybin to her customers, but if they approach her and say they plan to try, she can help them prepare for this special trip. Once completed, they will return and discuss their findings during the sessions.

'There is always something to learn'

“I can honestly say that I have never had a failed session. Because even if it is a difficult psilocybin session, if it is presented in the right way and you create safety for the person to really talk about what happened, there is always an opportunity to learn”, the therapist begins. She tells about a couple who struggled with relationship problems. They felt a lot of distance from each other and did not feel connected. "I wouldn't say they were about to divorce because they had kids, but they felt like they were living like brothers and sisters."

In the case of this couple, the psilocybin trip caused them to find each other again. During the trip they both felt like 'different persons'. "By giving these individuals a voice, they can hear themselves speak their own experience, but in a way that is not at all defensive." She asked the couple to talk to each other as if they were tripping again. “That was very powerful. There were many tears as they integrated what it was like to lose each other and find each other again ”.

Unity and well-being

But she doesn't just deal with psilocybin in her therapy. “MDMA is very useful for people who struggle with intimacy. What happens when couples get into therapy, they are not aligned. Most of the time it's about deep misunderstandings and hurt feelings, and they get very caught up in and attached to their story: "You did this, and that's why I feel it."

“When you use psilocybin, it creates a sense of unity and well-being in the world. That's not to say that all journeys are enjoyable, but even those who are unpleasant have a sense of ego-disillusionment. When the medicine wears off, you still have that change in perception, so you can see each other very differently ”. Sometimes it's really hard for me not to say, "Hey, you know what, you should try this and that!" ”

More friendly and patient

To conclude, she says that the integration of psychedelics in her sessions has also helped herself. “I've learned to be a much kinder, more patient person and let go. I care a lot less about a lot more. And I care a lot more about a lot less. Working with couples, they open up their lives to you in this very intimate way, which is very humbling ”.
