The coca plant comes from Peru and only grows at high altitudes in the Andes mountains. The leaves are used to make a special tea. It’s an ancient tea that the Incas already drunk. They thought it was a magic drink. With our knowledge we drink it because of the medicinal effect. It’s true that the Incas used the whole leaves and often fresh, so the strength is of course stronger than from the dried leaves as we use them. Still, you can influence your body positively with coca tea and use the medicinal effect that the Incas knew centuries ago.

Advantages of the coca tea are that it’s a tasty and healthy tea, it’s also a good sports drink, because in addition to thirst-quenching and refreshing, it also increases your endurance. You’ll get more energy from the tea, and it has a boosting effect. With a healthy diet it can work positively on your weight. The tea has a stimulating effect but it’s caffeine free. The coca tea contains vitamins like: A, B2, B6, C and E. It also contains different alkaloids which have medicinal effects.

What do you need?

- 1 teaspoon of dried coca leaves (powder).
- Heated cold water in a pot, but don’t let it boil. Heat till you form bubbles at the bottom, coca tea is similar as Asian green tea where hot water brings out the flavor better.
- Place the teaspoon of dried coca tea leaves in a tea egg. Place the tea egg in the pot with water.
- Allow the coca leaves to draw tea for 20 minutes for a dark brew and 10 minutes for a light amber brew. 
- Pour the coca tea into a mug. When it’s to strong you can pour more water in the mug. 
- Sweeten the tea with a teaspoon of honey and a dash of lemon juice. Stir and enjoy your tea!
