Magic Mushroom lovers feel like home here at Avalon Magic Plants. The reason is simple: we have everything you need to grow your own shrooms, whether you choose to use an easy to use magic mushroom grow kit, or use spores, syringes and other growing aids. The most popular way - especially for beginners - is to choose the former. In most cases, all you have to do is add a little water, after which you can grow quite a bunch of magic mushrooms.

But what do you do with all those fresh shrooms after growing all those magic mushrooms? For example: a Golden Teacher 1200cc grow kit will quickly provide you with a generous portion of 400 - 600 grams of magic mushrooms. And as you might guess: you probably won’t eat such a portion in one go (please, don't even try…). Basically, you have to find a way to store your fresh mushrooms. The best way to do this is to dry them. In this article we will tell you exactly how you can do just that in various ways, so that you can enjoy your yield for a very long time.

Why you need to dry your magic mushrooms

First things first: why wouldn’t you just put your mushrooms in a jar as soon as they are ready? Well, magic mushrooms consist of at least 90% water. This will result in the fact that they will eventually spoil if not properly dried. You can compare this with a fresh banana versus a dried banana: the latter will last much longer. Once the mushrooms have dried (and the water has been extracted), they can last for years while retaining their psychedelic powers. In short: there isn’t really any reason NOT to dry your magic mushrooms - unless you want to eat them all at once with some friends.

But that’s not all. There is another benefit of drying your mushrooms. The possibilities with it are endless. Dried magic mushrooms can be used in tea when dried, made into tinctures or you can even make small capsules with them to start microdosing psilocybin - the active ingredient in these amazing mushrooms. Dried mushrooms are not only functional and powerful, they are also super versatile. That brings us to the actual drying process of these mushrooms, which is actually easier than you might think.

How to dry magic mushrooms

As we learned above, the goal of drying your mushrooms is to extract all the moisture out of the mushrooms, after which they can be kept for years. Below we will tell you about a number of methods you can use to dry your mushrooms.

Using a food dehydrator

You can find a simple food dehydrator for anywhere between 30 to 50 euros (or dollars for you folks across the pond). These devices are great for drying all types of food, from fruit to meat (for delicious beef jerky), but also magic mushrooms. In the case of drying your mushrooms, set your food dehydrator (or dehydrator) to the lowest setting and let them sit in it for 12 to 24 hours. From time to time, you can check just how crispy they are - the goal is to get your mushrooms to be as crunchy and crispy as a cracker. So in the end, you have to be able to break them easily without bending them.

The use of desiccants

Another effective way, which might be a little less user-friendly according to some people, is to use so-called drying agents. This may sound like a strange thing, but we've all had our hands on them. Those little bags of 'salt' in our shoe box, bags or other packaging? That is silica - highly absorbent stones that absorb anything moisty. If you want to dry your mushrooms with this, fill an airtight container with these types of silica packages. Then cover it with a layer of kitchen paper and place a piece of gauze on top. Place your pre-dried mushrooms on the gauze and close the package. The silica packets will then pull the moisture out of the mushrooms. This process might take a while and will definitely take a longer time than using a dehydrator.

Start microdosing with your home-made magic mushrooms

Now that your shrooms are as dry as a desert, you can do all kinds of things with them. You can make tea, you can simply eat them, or you can crunch them into small doses to start microdosing magic mushrooms. All you need to make your own magic mushroom capsules are the dried magic mushrooms, empty capsules, a capsule machine and a glass jar to store the capsules. You can read more about this here.

In addition to making microdoses of magic mushrooms, you can do a lot more with these capsules and capping-machines. For instance: you can easily make your own herbal capsules with them, but they are also perfect for people who prefer not to buy ready-to-use health supplements. With these tools you can simply make them yourself in no time.
