Magic mushroom spore syringes for home cultivation

A spore syringe is the starting point for any grower who wants to work with loose spores rather than a ready-made grow kit. Each syringe contains 20 ml of sterile water in which millions of Psilocybe cubensis spores are suspended. You inject the spore solution directly into a substrate (such as rye grain, brown rice flour or vermiculite) and let the mycelium develop from there. This process gives you full control over every stage: from inoculation and colonisation to fruiting and harvest.

Working with spore syringes: the process

After receiving your spore syringe, store it in the refrigerator (2–8 °C) until use. For inoculation, work in as sterile an environment as possible. Disinfect your hands and work surface, wipe the needle with an alcohol swab and inject small amounts of spore solution into your substrate or growing container. Then let the whole thing colonise in a dark, warm spot (22–25 °C). Once the substrate is fully covered with white mycelium, you can introduce fruiting conditions: more light, fresh air and a slightly lower temperature.

Spore syringes, spore vials or spore prints?

In addition to spore syringes, Avalon Magic Plants also sells spore vials and spore prints. Spore vials contain a more concentrated spore solution in a smaller 10 ml bottle and come with a separate syringe. Spore prints are dried spore impressions on aluminium foil, intended for advanced growers who want to prepare their own spore solution. For beginners, a spore syringe is the most practical choice: you can get started straight away without extra steps.

Quality and storage

Store them in the refrigerator for maximum shelf life, so the spores remain viable until you are ready to inoculate. Keep in mind that there is no guarantee on spores, which is standard across the industry due to the many variables involved in the growing process.
