Our expertise with herbs and botanicals

At Avalon Magic Plants, everything revolves around quality and knowledge. Since our founding in 2009, we've grown into one of Europe's most experienced smartshops. We import, process and distribute a wide range of herbs, extracts and botanicals. Our expertise spans from magic truffles and mushroom grow kits to kratom, kanna, ayahuasca ingredients and CBD products.

15+ years of international import experience

Importing herbs and botanicals is complex work. Every country has its own regulations, every product requires specific handling. Over the past fifteen years, we've built strong relationships with suppliers in South America, Southeast Asia, Africa and Europe. We know the best cultivation regions for kratom in Indonesia, understand where the purest mimosa hostilis comes from and work together with experienced truffle growers in the Netherlands.

Our purchasing managers regularly travel to source countries to assess quality on-site. That personal contact makes the difference: we know exactly how our products are cultivated, harvested and processed.

Quality control following HACCP guidelines

As a registered food business with the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA), we work according to HACCP guidelines. HACCP stands for Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points, a systematic approach to ensuring food safety.

We identify all potential hazards in our process, from raw material receipt to customer shipment. For each critical point, we've established control measures. Think temperature checks upon receipt, visual inspection for contamination and lot number verification for traceability.

Our suppliers must meet strict requirements. We only work with certified parties who can provide analyses of their products. Specifications for matters like moisture content, heavy metals and microbiological load are documented in our quality manuals.

The seven HACCP principles

Our food safety system is based on the seven basic principles of HACCP. We've conducted a complete hazard and risk analysis for all our product categories. Critical control points are identified and documented. Measurable limits apply to each control point. Monitoring takes place systematically at set frequencies. Corrective actions are predetermined for cases where a limit is exceeded. Verification procedures confirm the system works effectively. All documentation is maintained for traceability and audits.

Hygienic practices in our production facility

Hygiene starts with the basics. Before our staff enter the production area, they wash their hands following a fixed protocol. This may seem obvious, but it's an essential part of our HACCP system. Every action in our workspace follows established procedures to prevent cross-contamination.

Weighing and packaging herbs takes place in our cleanroom. Here we work under controlled conditions: filtered air, constant temperature and low humidity. Each batch is precisely weighed using calibrated equipment. We register lot numbers directly in our system, allowing us to trace every product from supplier to customer.

Optimal storage conditions

Botanicals are sensitive products. Light, moisture and temperature affect quality and shelf life. Our storage facilities in Helmond are therefore fully climate-controlled. We store dry products like kratom and herbs at low humidity to prevent mould formation. Fresh products like magic truffles are kept refrigerated and shipped as quickly as possible.

Each product has an optimal storage method. Some extracts need dark storage, other herbs require airtight conditions. Our warehouse staff are trained to handle each product type correctly. That care shows in the quality that arrives at your door.

Traceability from source to customer

According to the European General Food Law, every business in the food chain must be able to demonstrate where products come from and where they go. With us, every shipment can be traced to the specific supplier and batch. If we receive a question or complaint, we can identify exactly which batch is involved.

This traceability protects you as a customer. Should there ever be a problem with a product batch, we can take targeted action without removing our entire range from sale.

Regulations and responsible business practices

The market for herbs and botanicals has complex regulations. Products that are legal in the Netherlands may be prohibited elsewhere. We carefully monitor which legislation applies in the countries we deliver to. On product pages, we mention legal information where necessary.

As a company, we're transparent about what we sell. Our product descriptions include scientific names, active compounds where known and honest information about effects. We don't make medical claims and always advise consulting a doctor if in doubt.

Knowledge sharing and customer service

We're happy to share our expertise. In our blog, we regularly publish articles about herbs, their history, traditional uses and current developments. Have specific questions? Our customer service team consists of people with years of experience in the industry. They can advise you on product choice, dosage and safe use.
