About hybrid mushroom grow kits
Hybrid and mutant strains of Psilocybe cubensis have grown significantly in popularity over recent years. While classic varieties like Golden Teacher and B+ have been around for decades, the strains in this category have been developed and stabilised more recently by dedicated cultivators. The result is a range of grow kits with a distinct character, both visually and in terms of cultivation behaviour. Enigma
Enigma is one of the most unusual varieties in the world of Psilocybe cubensis. This mutant does not form a conventional cap and stem. Instead it grows as a compact, brain-shaped cluster that resembles coral. Because Enigma cannot produce spores, the strain only exists through cloning. Every grow kit originates from the same mother culture, which means a stable and predictable growing result every time.
Jack Frost
Jack Frost is a hybrid developed by cultivator Dave Wombat, bred from White Albino Teacher and True Albino Teacher. The mushrooms are white to light blue with a crystalline, icy appearance that earned the strain its name. The stems are firm, the caps relatively broad. Jack Frost bruises quickly and intensely when touched, which indicates a high psilocin content. This grow kit suits growers who have experience with standard kits and want to take the next step.
Bluey Vuitton
Bluey Vuitton is a cross between Panama and Melmac PE (Penis Envy). The golden caps show a striking blue discolouration on the central part of the cap, caused by the oxidation of psilocin on contact with air. The stems are whitish and may turn blue when handled. The gills are wide and show varied patterns. Bluey Vuitton is known for generous flushes and above-average weight per harvest.
Growing process and yields
The hybrid grow kits in this range are delivered as fully colonised 1200cc mycelium blocks, complete with a grow bag and paperclip. Place the kit in a light, warm spot (21-23°C), mist regularly and allow for fresh air exchange. Most varieties produce two to three solid flushes. Store the kit in a cool, humid place after the first harvest to encourage a second flush.
