Futurola Kingsize roller: a straight roll without the knack

A roller takes the fiddly part of rolling off your hands. A belt runs between the two plastic rollers and turns along with them. You spread your filling onto that belt, push the rollers together and turn them a few times, and what comes out is a round, evenly packed cylinder. Only then does the paper go in. Because the belt presses with the same force everywhere, the result is the same every time, even if anything you roll by hand ends up crooked.

This version is sized for king size papers, the long format of roughly 110 millimetres. Shorter regular size papers work too, you simply end up with a bit of spare room at the side. The housing is plastic and the whole thing is flat, so it travels in a case or an inside pocket as easily as a packet of papers does. That is rather the point of a roller: it still works where rolling by hand does not, outdoors in the wind, say, or on a festival site.

Using it

  1. Pull the two rollers slightly apart and spread your filling loosely across the belt, without packing it down.
  2. Push the rollers back together and turn them towards you a few times, until a round cylinder has formed.
  3. Slide a paper between the rollers, gummed edge facing up and outwards.
  4. Keep turning until only the gummed edge is still showing, moisten it and turn it all the way in.
  5. Pull the rollers apart and lift your joint out.

Upkeep: keep it dry

The belt is the only part that wears out over time. Crumbs caught between the belt and the rollers make everything slip, so wipe it out now and then with a dry cloth or a small brush. Do not rinse the roller, because water sits between the rollers and leaves the belt tacky. Store it somewhere dry and the belt keeps running smoothly.

At Avalon Magic Plants you will also find the papers that go with it, such as the RAW Ethereal Gold King Size Slim, and the Cone Filler Shaker for 25 King Size cones if you would rather fill ready-made cones. For the preparation there is the Grinder wooden classic, among others. Your order ships discreetly packaged.
