Mindfold Eyemask: darkness with your eyes wide open
Most sleep masks press a piece of fabric against your eyelids and still let a sliver of light creep in along the nose. The Mindfold works the other way round. A flexible black plastic shell carries a layer of high-density soft foam, and two cut-outs in that foam leave room for your eyes. Nothing touches your eyelids, nothing pushes on your lashes, and you can blink or stare straight ahead without seeing anything.
The shell is curved to follow the face and reaches past the temples on both sides. A broad elastic strap holds everything in place and adjusts, so you can set the edges to sit flush without the mask gripping your head. It weighs almost nothing and stays flat, which makes it an easy thing to keep in a bag.
When it comes in handy
Sleeping during the day with the sun on the curtains, taking an hour of rest on a train, or simply shutting out everything around you for a while: that is the kind of moment this mask is made for. It also suits meditation or a breathing exercise, because you do not have to squeeze your eyes shut to get darkness. Do keep in mind that you see nothing at all while wearing it, so put it on only where you have no need to look around.
Keeping it clean
Wipe the inside with a slightly damp cloth and let the mask air dry afterwards. Plastic and foam do not take kindly to soaking or to a washing machine, so leave both out of it. Store the mask flat and the shell will keep its shape.
