L-tryptophan is a precursor of 5-HTP, which is in turn a precursor of serotonine and melatonine, neurotransmitters that regulate our mood and sleep pattern. Tryptophan is often taken after using MDMA (Ecstasy) to replenish depleted serotonine supplies.
