Geometric Kuripe in copper: an applicator for your own use
A kuripe is the tool you use to administer rapé to yourself. Rapé is a finely ground blend of herbs, tobacco and ash, traditionally used by indigenous peoples of the Amazon. The shape hardly varies: two tubes joined at an angle to form a V. One end goes to the mouth, the other to the nostril, which leaves the direction and the force entirely up to you.
This version is made of copper. The middle section has a black finish carrying an angular, geometric pattern through which the copper beneath shows as a play of lines, while both ends are left bare and polished. It weighs around 30 grams, so it sits heavier in the hand than a wooden or bamboo piece and holds its shape better. Copper darkens into a patina over time, which comes with the material.
Use and care
Put a small amount of rapé into the end that goes to the nostril, hold the other end to your mouth and blow once, short and controlled. Repeat for the other nostril if you wish. Give yourself time to learn the dosing, because a kuripe delivers far more directly than you might expect at first sight. Keep the tube dry and tap or wipe it out after use so the channel stays clear.
