Queen Bee extractor: the same range as the Honey Bee, with more volume

The Queen Bee comes from the same range as the Honey Bee Extractor and is first of all a matter of size: the tube holds about three times as much, so you process more plant material in a single run. The principle stays the same. You fill the tube, screw on the perforated cap and run a liquefied extraction gas through the material; the gas itself is not included. No heat source is involved, and according to the supplier the revised shape yields more per gram of material than the smaller model.

The plastic is, by the supplier's account, resistant to chemicals and explicitly PVC-free, which is what counts with this type of device. Little smell is released during use, and from filled to drained you are usually done inside an hour. The tubes are supplied in assorted colours, so the colour you receive is not fixed. Thanks to the wider tube and the straight walls, cleaning up afterwards is easier than on a narrow model.

Working safely with extraction gas

This part cannot be skipped. Extraction gases are extremely flammable and their vapours are heavier than air, which means they linger close to the floor. Keep well away from sparks, open flames, pilot lights and any other heat source; the Honey Bee label states a distance of around 60 metres. Work outdoors or in a well ventilated space, do not switch on appliances or light switches while you are busy, and read the instructions supplied with the extractor before you start. Using a device like this is your own responsibility, and whether you may use it differs from country to country.

After use

  1. Take off the cap and discard the spent material.
  2. Let all parts air out completely in a ventilated spot before storing them.
  3. Rinse the tube with warm water and a little washing-up liquid and let it dry; abrasives leave scratches in which residue collects.
  4. Store the extractor with the cap loose, so nothing is left sitting in the tube.
