Growkit Mars: the fuller flush in the Space Shrooms range
Mars is the kit the grower singles out for the number of fruiting bodies it puts up per flush. The basis is the same as the rest of the line: Psilocybe cubensis on a substrate colonised under sterile conditions. What arrives at your door is not a kit you assemble but one where the difficult part has already been done.
What is in the box
You get a transparent inner tray with the colonised substrate, a cover with ventilation holes and a cloth. That cloth matters more than it looks: it decides how much fresh air reaches the kit and therefore when the mushrooms break through. At first it covers every hole but one, and from then on you pull it back a little further each day so more air gets in.
From start to first harvest
- Remove the lid of the inner tray and lightly mist the substrate with a spray bottle.
- Spray once or twice against the inside of the cover and put the cover back, leaving the inner lid off.
- Lay the cloth over the holes and keep only the top one uncovered.
- When caps become visible, stop spraying and keep peeling the cloth back day by day.
The kit works between 18 and 30 degrees Celsius, with roughly 23 as the comfortable spot. Give it a bright place out of full sun. Under normal conditions the first flush arrives after about ten days. If condensation under the cover has disappeared, mist the inside of the cover again rather than the substrate itself.
Harvesting, storing and the next flush
Wash your hands before touching the kit and work in a clean room, because moulds and bacteria are what usually spoil a grow. Twist each mushroom out at the base and leave the white mycelium alone. Anything stuck along the walls comes out with sterilised tweezers. Store the harvest covered in the fridge and away from light; drying it keeps it usable far longer. After that you repeat the whole cycle for the second and third flush.
