Grumpy Percolator Pipe by Black Leaf
The shape is the point here. Black Leaf blew this little water pipe into a round head that scowls back at you, complete with heavy brows, two ears and a lopsided mouth. The body is orange coloured glass, the bent neck you inhale through is translucent green, and two green glass spikes stick out either side of the crown. The Black Leaf name is printed across the forehead. At 20 cm tall and about 90 mm across, it sits on a shelf or in a drawer rather than looming over the table.
Underneath the cartoon face it is a straightforward bubbler. The glass is borosilicate, the same heat-tolerant material used for lab glassware, and the stem carries a slit percolator that breaks the smoke into smaller bubbles under the water. Coloured glass also earns its keep in a practical way: residue on the inside shows up far less than it does on a clear piece.

Lift the bowl instead of using a kickhole
There is no kickhole and no carb hole on this pipe. To clear it you lift the bowl straight out of the joint, which is why the bowl comes with a small glass handle attached. The 14.5 mm joint is a common size, so other bowls and adapters in that format will fit as well. The Grumpy was not built for dabbing, although swapping the bowl for a 14.5 mm banger converts it if that is what you want.
Water level and cleaning
Add enough water to cover the percolator and no more. Overfill it and water splashes up the neck; underfill it and the percolator has nothing to work with. Change the water often and rinse the piece after a session, because resin that has been sitting for weeks takes real effort to shift. Store it upright with the bowl kept separately.
