Capsule Machine (size 0)

Capsule Machine size 0: the middle option

Size 0 is where most people end up. At around 500 mg of powder per capsule it sits between size 1 (about 400 mg) and size 00 (about 650 mg): enough volume that you are not swallowing four capsules at a time, still small enough to go down comfortably. The machine fills 24 of them per pass. In practice you will spend longer weighing out your powder than doing the actual filling.

What you are holding

The set consists of the base plate with 24 openings, the holder for the capsule halves, the lid, a spread card and a tamper. A silica bag comes with it as well: take it out of the plastic and keep it with your capsules in a sealed jar so they do not go soft from moisture. The bag only absorbs moisture and is not edible. Empty size 0 capsules are a separate purchase, in the same category of the shop.

From loose powder to 24 capsules

1. Separate the empty capsules and stand the bottom halves upright in the holder.
2. Tip your powder on top and sweep it across the openings with the spread card.
3. Press the powder down with the tamper and top up wherever there is room left.
4. Place the top halves in the lid and press it down firmly in one movement.
5. Take the capsules out and store them somewhere dry and dark.

Cleaning and storage

Brush leftover powder away with a dry brush or cloth after use. If you rinse the parts, let them dry completely before loading new capsules, because damp gelatin sticks. Avalon Magic Plants also stocks the versions for size 1, 00 and 000, the matching empty capsules, and the grinders and scales for the prep work.
