Empty capsules size 00: fewer capsules per serving
Size 00 is the roomiest of the three common sizes. One capsule takes about 0.9 millilitres, which for an average herbal powder comes out at some 650 milligrams. These are clear gelatin capsules in two parts, a body and a cap, one hundred to a box.
Where you notice the difference with the smaller sizes is in the capsule count. Take one and a half grams at a time and size 1 puts you at four capsules, size 0 at three and size 00 at just over two. The trade-off is that a size 00 capsule is noticeably bigger, so if large capsules are hard for you to swallow, size 0 or 1 is the better call. The weight per capsule also depends on your powder: a fluffy leaf powder will not reach 650 milligrams, while a finely milled extract goes past it.
Gelatin and moisture
Gelatin comes from animal sources, so these capsules are not suitable on a plant-based diet. The material also draws in moisture. Leave the capsules sitting in a damp kitchen or bathroom and they go soft, which makes the two halves harder to fit together. Keep them in a sealed jar somewhere dry and dark; a silica bag in that same jar keeps the contents dry. Store out of reach of children.
Filling with the size 00 Capsule Machine
