Eucalyptus globulus 1:1 extract: blue gum leaf in liquid form
Eucalyptus globulus originates in south-eastern Australia and Tasmania, where the tree grows to considerable height. It has since been planted on other continents as well, Portugal and Spain among them, and its leathery, sickle-shaped leaves give themselves away by scent alone. That scent comes from the volatile oil in the leaf, in which cineole, also known as eucalyptol, is the principal component.
This bottle holds that leaf in liquid, concentrated form. The 1:1 marking refers to the ratio the tincture was prepared at: one part plant material per part finished product. The extract therefore stays close to the raw plant, which you notice immediately in the aroma and taste, fresh and herbal with a camphorous edge that lingers briefly. The bottle contains 10 ml and has a dropper, so small amounts can be measured out precisely.
Use and storage
Follow the directions on the label and shake the bottle before use. Eucalyptus has always been a plant people work with in small quantities, so be sparing and start low. Keep the tincture cool, dry and dark, out of reach of young children. If you take medication, are pregnant or are breastfeeding, speak to your doctor or pharmacist first.
