Kratom Borneo red 30X: a powdered extract from Borneo leaf
Borneo is an origin label, not a plant species. The leaf comes from Mitragyna speciosa, a tree in the coffee family native to Southeast Asia that reaches some sixteen metres in the wild. Origin names run into each other in the trade: Borneo leaf is also sold under the name Bali, which says something about how batches get sorted and little about the tree itself. The word red points to the colour of the vein running through the leaf, a sorting characteristic traders use alongside green and white.
What matters more for what you are holding is that this is not loose leaf but an extract. At 30X, roughly 30 grams of leaf has been reduced to 1 gram of powder, so you work with smaller amounts than loose kratom powder calls for. Extract versus loose leaf
Loose kratom leaf is usually weighed by the gram and sold in portions of tens of grams. An extract goes by the tenth of a gram, which makes it a different product in use, not simply a stronger version of the same thing. Anyone moving from loose powder to an extract cannot carry over the same measuring spoon. A kitchen scale that reads to 0.01 gram is the difference here between knowing and guessing.
Preparation
The powder dissolves into a glass of fruit juice or into hot water with lemon; the acidity helps it mix and masks part of the bitterness. Stirring it into tea works as well. Always begin with the smallest amount you can measure, certainly if this extract is new to you, and wait before adding anything. Store the powder dry, dark and tightly closed.
