Thai Red Kratom: red vein leaf of Mitragyna speciosa, finely milled
Mitragyna speciosa grows in Southeast Asia, belongs to the same family as the coffee plant and reaches some fifteen metres in the wild. Only its leaf ends up in this bag. Pickers take the leaf by hand, it is dried, and a mill turns it into a fine powder. Nothing else goes in, so no stem and no filler. Thai is a trade name attached to that chain rather than to a single plantation: it goes back to leaf from Thailand and now covers material from neighbouring countries as well.
The word red needs a note, because it has nothing to do with the shade of the powder. Traders sort kratom by the colour of the central vein of the leaf and by what happened to that leaf after harvest. Red tends to be the more mature leaf, dried for longer and sometimes given a fermentation step, while white comes from younger leaf dried out of direct sun and green sits in between. Useful as this system is for describing a batch, it guarantees no fixed composition. Studies on Mitragyna speciosa show that drying time and temperature move the alkaloid profile around, so two harvests under one label can differ from each other.

Weights start at 25 grams and run up to 10 kilos. A small bag lets you put Thai Red next to another type, 100 or 500 grams suits regular orders, and 1, 5 and 10 kilos cover high volume.
