Bitch Bong grinder: pink aluminium with a unicorn on the lid
This grinder belongs to the Bitch Bong line from Black Leaf, drawn by designer Sly. Set into the lid behind a clear cover is a printed chip: a white unicorn leaping over a rainbow, stars scattered across a pink field and the BITCH BONG lettering below. The body is pink anodised aluminium and the sides carry a fine diamond knurling, so the halves still turn against each other when your fingers are dry.
Behind the artwork sits plain, solid engineering. The teeth are diamond cut and closely spaced, so they catch firmer material rather than sliding over it. A nylon ring sits between the two halves, keeping metal off metal, letting the parts run smoothly and preventing wear marks on the rim. A magnet pulls the halves together, which is what you notice once the grinder travels loose in a jacket pocket. At roughly 50 millimetres across, 20 millimetres tall and around 75 grams, it stays easy to carry.
Grinding with two parts
- Unscrew the lid and spread your herbs loosely between the teeth, without packing them down or filling to the rim.
- Put the lid back on and turn the halves back and forth a few times.
- Open it up and tap the contents gently into your hand or onto a flat dish.
A two-part grinder has no separate collection chamber and no screen, so the ground material stays between the teeth. That keeps it flatter and lighter than a four-part model, but it also means you are not collecting pollen with it.
Keeping it clean
Run a small brush along the teeth and the thread every so often. Resin build-up makes the grinder turn heavily, and the nylon ring is usually where you notice it first. Leave that ring in place while cleaning and keep sharp tools away from the anodised finish.
