Allium sativum 1:1 extract: garlic in drop form

Garlic hardly needs an introduction. The bulb turns up in kitchens across half of Europe and appears in ancient texts from the Middle East, where it held a fixed place in cooking and in folk tradition for centuries. This extract reduces that same plant to a liquid you dose by the drop, with no clove to crush.

What you get is a 1:1 extract in a 10 ml bottle, produced by Fit-UP. The ratio tells you something about concentration: roughly one gram of plant material has been processed into every millilitre of liquid. For comparison, a 2.5:1 extract packs two and a half grams into that same millilitre. A 1:1 extract therefore sits close to the raw material, which keeps the taste clearly recognisable.

Use and dosage

As with most herbal tinctures, you take a number of drops in a glass of water or juice, or straight under the tongue. Shake the bottle before use. Do bear the smell in mind, because garlic is not easily brushed away, so plan your drops after rather than before a conversation where you want to make an impression.

Why an extract instead of a fresh clove

A tincture is mainly a matter of convenience: the bottle lasts a long time, you need neither press nor cutting board, and every dose is the same size. The flavour also stays more stable in liquid form than in a clove left in the kitchen drawer for a week.

Storage and precautions

Keep the bottle cool, dry and dark, and out of reach of young children. If you take medication, are pregnant or are breastfeeding, talk to your doctor first. At Avalon Magic Plants the same category holds dozens of other 1:1 extracts, among them nettle, chamomile, peppermint, ginger and dandelion.
