Autoclavable microfilter bags, set of 5

Sterile work is half the battle in mushroom cultivation. These filter bags let you sterilise your substrate or grain and then colonise it without opening the bag again. The foil carries a microfilter that permits gas exchange, so the mycelium can breathe, while it keeps dust particles and airborne spores outside. Those airborne competitors, moulds and bacteria drifting through any room, are the usual reason a grow fails.

The bags withstand temperatures up to 120 degrees Celsius, which covers a standard sterilisation cycle in an autoclave or a pressure cooker. Each bag measures 10 x 20 x 50 cm and holds around two litres of substrate. Five bags come in a set.

How to work with them

Fill the bag with your substrate, fold the top over loosely and sterilise the lot. Let the bag cool down completely before you inoculate, preferably in a still room or in front of a flow hood. Seal the bag after inoculation and put it away somewhere dark and slightly warm to colonise. Only shake it once the mycelium has taken hold properly. Work with clean hands, disinfect your tools and open the bag as few times as you can get away with.
