Heat Guard - protection you don't see but will notice at harvest

A heat mat provides warmth and that is useful - but direct heat from a mat against the plastic of a grow kit quickly climbs too high. Above 30°C the mycelium gets damaged, hotspots develop and the risk of contamination increases. The Heat Guard solves that with a simple intervention: a silicone buffer measuring 20x4x2 cm placed between the mat and the grow kit.

Silicone conducts heat more slowly than plastic or metal. This distributes warmth evenly across the base of the grow kit instead of heating one point. At the same time the guard lifts the kit slightly off the mat, improving air circulation at the bottom.

Use the heat mat at a quarter to half power for smaller grow kits, and at half to maximum for larger ones. Switch the heat mat off 1 to 2 days before the planned harvest - this prevents the mushrooms from releasing their spores too quickly. In warm rooms the heat mat may not be needed at all. Always check the ambient temperature before switching the mat on.
