Mexican Mini grow kit 600 cc by Freshmushrooms
This is the small version of the Freshmushrooms 100 percent mycelium kit. The tray holds 600 cc and was fully colonised in the lab, with no fillers added. That is what the mini format is for: trying out a variety, or running a few side by side, without committing to a large kit. By our own reckoning a 600 cc mini kit yields on average 100 to 150 grams of fresh mushrooms across several flushes.
Mexican is one of the oldest and most widely cultivated varieties of Psilocybe cubensis, and growers know it as an easy starter with medium sized fruiting bodies. The name points at Mexico, but where the cultivated line actually comes from is poorly documented: there is no formal botanical description of Mexican as a separate variety, and almost everything written about its origin traces back to vendors. Note that this is Psilocybe cubensis; Psilocybe mexicana is a different species altogether. The box holds the kit itself, the grow bag with micro perforation and a paperclip. You need nothing else.
Setting up the kit
- Take off the lid, rinse it under the tap and keep it, you will need it again later.
- Put the kit without its lid into the bag supplied, micro perforation facing up. Slide the opening of the bag under the base.
- Place the kit somewhere light but out of direct sun, at a temperature between 18 and 28 degrees. Around 23 degrees works best.
- Once the mushrooms push against the bag, stand it upright. Do not spray: the kit manages its own moisture. Leave the bag open a crack while they grow so moisture can escape.

Harvesting and the next flush
Harvest before the first spores drop, so just before the veils under the caps tear open. After that you can restart the kit: fill it with clean tap water, put the lid back on and leave it for twelve hours. Pour the excess water off through one corner and start again at step 1. You can repeat this a few times, in practice around three to five flushes. Wash your hands before touching the kit and work in a clean room, because mould and bacteria are the main reason a kit gives up.
