Pes Amazonian Mini grow kit 600 cc by Freshmushrooms
This is the smallest version of the Freshmushrooms 100 percent mycelium kit: a tray holding 600 cc of substrate, colonised right through in the lab and free of fillers. There is no soaking and no inoculating to do, you simply set the kit up. That makes the mini format useful for trying out a variety or for running a few of them side by side. By our own reckoning a 600 cc mini kit yields on average 100 to 150 grams of fresh mushrooms, spread over several flushes.
Pes Amazonian is a variety of Psilocybe cubensis that the trade knows for large, fleshy fruiting bodies with thick stems and broad, flat to slightly convex caps, light to dark brown with a golden sheen. Our own product information puts the mushrooms from this line among the largest in the cubensis range. Its background is less settled than sellers suggest: the name points at the Amazon, and the abbreviation PES is said to stand for Pacifica Exotica Spora, a spore supplier that no longer exists, but there is no formal botanical description of Pes Amazonian as a separate variety and nearly everything written about it traces back to vendors. The box holds the kit itself, the grow bag with micro perforation and a paperclip.
Setting up the kit
- Take off the lid, rinse it under the tap and keep it, you will need it again later.
- Put the kit without its lid into the bag supplied, micro perforation facing up, and slide the opening of the bag under the base.
- Place the kit somewhere light but out of direct sun, at 18 to 28 degrees. Around 23 degrees works best.
- Once the first mushrooms push against the bag, stand it upright. Do not spray: the kit manages its own moisture. Leave the bag open a crack while they grow so moisture can escape.
The first mushrooms usually appear after about a week and are generally fully grown within four to five weeks. Low or high temperatures slow that down a little. Click here for the full manual.
Harvesting and the next flush
Harvest before the first spores drop, so just before the veils under the caps tear open. With a variety that builds caps this broad, a single day can make the difference. After that you can restart the kit: fill it with clean tap water, put the lid back on and leave it for twelve hours. Pour the excess water off through one corner and start again at step 1. You can repeat this a few times, in practice around three to five flushes. Wash your hands before touching the kit and work in a clean room, because mould and bacteria are the main reason a kit gives up.
