Lion's Mane powder: 100 grams of fruiting body extract
Hericium erinaceus is hard to confuse with anything else. Instead of a cap on a stem it grows a cream-white ball of hanging spines two to five centimetres long, usually high up in an old beech or oak. Those spines gave the mushroom its species name, since erinaceus means hedgehog. In Japan it goes by yamabushitake and has a long history in the kitchen.
What you get here is 100 grams of organic Lion's Mane extract made from 100% fruiting body, so no mycelium grown on grain. It is a full-spectrum extract drawn with water and ethanol, which brings across the water-soluble and the alcohol-soluble compounds alike. The extract holds 5% polysaccharides and beta-glucans, so a single serving of about 1.5 grams supplies roughly 75 milligrams.
How to use the powder
The usual serving is one teaspoon, about 1.5 grams a day, dissolved in hot water. Lion's Mane tastes mild and slightly nutty, so it does not take over a drink: coffee, tea and smoothies all handle it well. Stirred through a breakfast shake you will barely notice it is there. At 100 grams you have around 66 servings, roughly two months of daily use.
Storage and warning
Keep the powder at room temperature in a dark spot and out of reach of children. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding or dealing with health complaints, speak to your doctor before you start. This is a food supplement and no replacement for a varied diet. Alongside this powder, Avalon Magic Plants stocks Lion's Mane as a liquid extract in a dropper bottle, plus extracts of chaga, reishi and cordyceps. Everything leaves our warehouse discreetly packaged.
