Reishi extract 30 ml: drops instead of spoonfuls
Reishi in powder form asks for a spoon, a cup of hot water and a certain tolerance for bitterness. This bottle skips that step: count five drops and you are done. What is inside is a liquid extract of the fruiting bodies of Ganoderma lucidum, standardised at 30% polysaccharides. It is produced with a threefold extraction procedure that includes an ultrasonic sound frequency technique, so the full spectrum of compounds is drawn out of that tough, leathery tissue and into the liquid.
Reishi has a long record behind it. Chinese physicians described the species more than two thousand years ago and handed it the nickname mushroom of immortality; herbalists across Asia still work with it today. This particular extract is made by Foodsporen and is suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
Serving, ingredients and storage
Take five drops twice a day and avoid carbonated drinks while doing so. A 30 ml bottle holds sixty of those servings, which comes to about a month of daily use. Every 10 drops supply 500 mg of reishi and 225 μg of vitamin B6, equal to 15% of the daily reference intake. The ingredient list is short: reishi (Ganoderma lucidum), water, alcohol and pyridoxine hydrochloride, better known as vitamin B6. Alcohol content is 20% vol. Keep the bottle out of reach of children. This is a food supplement rather than a replacement for a varied diet; if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or have health complaints, speak to your doctor first.
Why the violet bottle
The dropper bottle is made of MIRON violet glass. That glass filters incoming light and blocks UV radiation among other wavelengths, which protects the contents and helps the shelf life. Once empty, the bottle is simply reusable. Besides this liquid extract, Avalon Magic Plants stocks reishi as a 100 gram powder and extracts of chaga and lion's mane. Everything ships in discreet packaging.
