Reishi powder: 100 grams of fruiting body extract
What you get here is 100 grams of organic reishi extract made from 100% fruiting body, not from mycelium grown on grain. It is a full-spectrum extract obtained with water and ethanol, so both the water-soluble and the alcohol-soluble compounds end up in the powder. The extract contains 5% polysaccharides and beta-glucans. Reishi is also known for its triterpenes, the group that includes the ganoderic acids, and those same compounds explain why the powder tastes as bitter as it does.
Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum) grows as a hard, glossy bracket on hardwood and has been cultivated and used in East Asia for centuries. Its nickname, the mushroom of immortality, comes out of that tradition and says more about the standing of the species there than about anything else. As food it is a non-starter: the fruiting body is leathery and thoroughly bitter. That is precisely why it nearly always ends up as tea, tincture or, as in this case, a powder you can measure out.
Serving and use
Net content: 100 grams. Ingredients: organic reishi extract from 100% fruiting body, nothing else. The usual serving is one teaspoon of about 1.5 grams a day, dissolved in hot water, which comes down to roughly 75 mg of polysaccharides and beta-glucans per serving. If the bitterness is not for you, stir the powder through a shake or smoothie, or pair it with coffee or cacao. At one serving a day, 100 grams gives you around 66 servings, so a little over two months.
Storage and warning
Keep the packaging at room temperature in a dark place and out of reach of children. This is a food supplement and not a substitute for a varied diet. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding or dealing with health complaints, talk to your doctor first. Alongside this powder, Avalon Magic Plants also carries reishi as a liquid extract in a 30 ml dropper bottle, plus chaga and lion's mane. Everything ships in discreet packaging.
