Two chamber bong in acrylic, 35 cm tall
Where an ordinary bong has one water chamber, this model stacks two of them in the tube. Smoke travels through the water in the lower chamber first and then through the water in the second. Two contacts with water mean two rounds of cooling on the way to the mouthpiece; how much of a difference that makes depends on how full you keep the chambers and how hard you pull.
The body is acrylic. That saves weight compared with glass and usually survives a fall off the table without shattering, which is why plenty of people pick this material. At 35 cm tall and some 5 cm across this is not a compact travel piece: it stands firmly on a table and leaves plenty of tube above the upper chamber. The model comes in six colours, namely black, green, blue, red, orange and purple. Which ones are available right now shows in the drop-down when you order, since not every colour is always in stock.
Filling both chambers
- Fill the lower chamber with water to just above the end of the downstem, so the smoke has to pass through it.
- Fill the second chamber the same way, leaving a good amount of air above the water.
- Draw through a few times without lighting anything to see whether water climbs. If it heads towards the mouthpiece, pour a little out of both chambers.
- Change the water every session. Standing water is the main cause of a stale taste.
Cleaning acrylic
Acrylic asks for a different approach than glass. Use hand-warm water rather than boiling water, because acrylic can deform at high temperatures. A little washing-up liquid with a generous spoonful of coarse salt does the job: block the openings, shake the whole thing through and rinse at length afterwards. Leave aggressive solvents such as acetone alone, as they attack the surface and leave it cloudy. A narrow bottle brush reaches into the tube between the two chambers. Let everything drain upside down afterwards so no water sits in the lower chamber.
