Roach Clip Glass Mushroom

Four glass mushroom clips in one set

This set is made up of four roach clips, each carrying a small glass mushroom on top. The photo shows the colours you get: green, red, purple and blue. Under the glass sits the same metal clamp every time, with toothed jaws you open by pinching and that stay shut on their own once you let go.

A single clip is useful; a set of four earns its keep when there are several of you. Everyone picks a colour and by the end of the evening you still know which one was yours. The glass cap also does a practical job: it stays cooler than the metal underneath and gives you a fixed point to hold, so your fingers never touch the paper. Lose one and there are still three in the drawer.

How to use them

Pinch the clip open, slide a few millimetres of the end between the jaws and let go; the spring takes care of the rest. If the joint hangs at an angle, clamp a little further towards the middle. Hold the clip by its lower end rather than close to the ember.

Cleaning and storage

Let a clip cool down after use. Residue on the jaws comes off with a small brush or a cotton bud dipped in alcohol; rinse the glass cap under water and dry it properly, otherwise it turns cloudy. Keep the four clips together in a rolling pouch or stash tin, since loose in a drawer they disappear quickly. Avalon Magic Plants also stocks the roach clip with a glass dice, the version that glows in the dark, papers, tips and grinders. Everything goes out in discreet packaging.
