Entada Rheedii 50X: extract of the African dream seed
Entada rheedii, also written Entada rheedei, is a woody liana belonging to the mimosoid group of the legume family. Its main stem can run for tens of metres and pods of around two metres have been recorded. Inside sit flat seeds with a thick, hard coat that survives long spells in seawater, which is how they end up washed ashore far from where they grew and how the plant picked up the names sea bean and snuff box sea bean. In Jamaica it is called cacoon vine; Zulu names include inkwindi, intindile and umbhone. This product concentrates the white kernel of the seed fifty times over. Traditional use
In African traditional medicine the white inside of the seed is eaten shortly before going to sleep, or chopped, dried and smoked together with other herbs such as tobacco. Within that tradition the seed is known as a dream herb and is associated with vivid dreams and with contact with the ancestors. In South Africa the seeds are also mentioned in connection with jaundice, and the powdered seed is described as a tonic. These are handed-down applications from the ethnobotanical literature rather than a demonstrated effect.
How much to use
No generally accepted amount is documented for this 50X extract. An extract is a good deal more concentrated than the plain seed, so start with a small amount and give it time before taking more. You can stir the powder into hot water or combine it with a herbal tea; the taste is herby and somewhat bitter.
