Satya Nirvana: warm incense with sandalwood and vanilla
Nirvana is the soft, late-evening side of the Satya range. Its heart is dark sandalwood with a musky undertone, layered with ripe sweet fruit notes, violet and a creamy stroke of vanilla. It stays close to the classic Nag Champa profile Satya is known for, only less floral and tilted further towards warmth. Sellers usually mention it in the same breath as meditation; in practice it works just as well as the scent for a quiet evening on the sofa.
The sticks come from India and are rolled one by one by hand. A paste of resins, sandalwood powder, herbs and fragrance oils is wrapped around a thin bamboo stick and then left to dry slowly. This masala way of working means the scent comes from the stick itself instead of from a perfume dip applied afterwards, which you can hear in how long the fragrance keeps going. A box holds 15 grams, roughly 12 to 15 sticks, and each one burns for about 30 to 45 minutes. Because it is handwork, one stick will be slightly thicker than the next.
Burning and storing
Light the tip, wait a couple of seconds for the flame to catch and then blow it out; the stick should glow rather than flame. Stand it upright in a holder or a dish of sand, with something underneath that can take falling ash. Keep a window slightly open and do not leave a burning stick unattended. Store the box closed, dry and away from direct sunlight.
