Satya Reiki Power: incense rolled by hand in India
Every stick in this box is rolled by hand from natural herbs and flower extract. A damp paste is pressed around a thin bamboo stick and then left to dry slowly, which is what sets masala-style incense apart from sticks that are simply dipped in fragrance oil once they are finished. The scent sits inside the stick rather than on it. A 15 gram box works out at roughly twelve to fifteen sticks of about 20 centimetres, and each one burns for around 45 minutes. Since this is handwork, no two sticks come out exactly alike in thickness.
As for the fragrance, Reiki Power follows the same construction as the rest of the Satya range: sandalwood powder as the foundation, with flower oils added on top. Retailers do not entirely agree on how to pin it down. Some file it under fresh and floral with a citrus edge, others describe something softer and faintly musky. The common thread across those descriptions is a calm scent that never pushes itself forward, with the woody base staying audible underneath.
Lighting and storing
Light the tip, give the flame a couple of seconds to take hold, then blow it out so the stick glows instead of burns. Place it in a holder that catches the ash, upright or at an angle, and leave a window slightly open so the fragrance does not settle in. Never leave burning incense unattended, and keep it well away from curtains and paper. Store the box closed, dry and out of direct sunlight to keep the oils in good shape.
