Satya Seven Chakra: incense named after the seven chakras
The name points to the seven chakras of yogic tradition, running from the root at the base of the spine up to the crown. The yellow box carries the spelling Seven Chakra, while our shop lists the product as Seven Chacra. One thing worth knowing before you order: this box holds a single blended scent rather than seven separate ones, whatever the name suggests. That blend is herbal and floral over the sandalwood base the Nag Champa range is built on, and it reads fresher and lighter than classic Nag Champa.
Satya still rolls these sticks by hand using the masala method. Sandalwood powder, resins, herbs and fragrance oil are kneaded into a paste, wound around a thin bamboo stick and left to dry slowly. The scent therefore lives in the mixture itself rather than in a coat of perfume applied at the end. A box weighs 15 grams, and since it is packed by weight you end up with roughly 12 to 15 sticks of around 20 centimetres. Each one burns for something like 30 to 45 minutes, and the scent stays in the room for hours after that.
Burning a stick
Light the tip, let the flame catch for two or three seconds and blow it out; the stick glows on and gives off a thin ribbon of smoke. Stand it in a holder or a small pot of sand on a surface that can take falling ash, keep the room lightly ventilated and never leave a burning stick unattended. Close the box afterwards, because unlit sticks release their fragrance slowly as well.
