Mascotte Brown King Size: unbleached paper of 108 by 58 millimetres
Brown is the unbleached line from Mascotte: the same thin paper as the white Original, but without the bleaching step. It stays chlorine free and keeps the natural brown colour of the fibre. A sheet weighs around 14 grams per square metre, which is on the thin side, and the gum strip is natural acacia gum taken from the bark of the acacia tree. Mascotte states that its papers are vegan and gluten free and that the packaging is FSC certified.
The size is what Mascotte calls King Size: 108 millimetres long and 58 millimetres wide. That width is what sets it apart from a slim sheet. You have paper to spare, which lets you roll inside out, with the gum strip on the inside and the surplus paper torn away before you seal. A booklet holds 34 sheets and sits in a card sleeve with a magnetic closure. The magnet keeps the flap shut while the booklet travels loose in a jacket pocket or bag, where an ordinary tuck-in flap falls open and creases the top sheets.
Storing and rolling
Keep the booklet dry and flat. Damp paper tears sooner and the gum strip holds less well, and a booklet that folds double in a trouser pocket never rolls straight again. Filter tips are not included in this booklet; buy them separately, or pick the combi version that comes with them.
