Smoking Blue King Size: the wide leaf of the Smoking range
Smoking belongs to Miquel y Costas, a Spanish paper maker whose roots lie in Capellades near Barcelona, where the Miquel family once made paper by hand. The Smoking name has been registered since 1924. Blue is the wide king size of the range at 108 by 52 millimetres, against 44 millimetres for the gold and green king size leaves from the same family.
The paper runs at about 13 grams per square metre, which makes it ultrathin and faintly transparent, enough to see the contents through it. Thin paper burns along more slowly, so what you taste comes mostly from what you rolled rather than from the sheet around it. Every leaf carries the Smoking watermark and the paper is FSC certified. The gum line is 100 percent natural vegetable gum, free of colourings and other additives, and seals in one pass.
What the extra width gives you
At 52 millimetres this is the widest sheet in the range. That leaves room to fill generously, and it also makes inside out rolling straightforward: tear the surplus paper away along the gum line and less paper burns with the smoke. If you would rather work narrow, look at the Master Silver at 37 millimetres; for the standard width, the Gold or Green king size at 44 millimetres is the one.
What is in the booklet
A booklet counts 33 leaves and stays flat and flexible, so it survives an inside pocket or a tobacco pouch without creasing. Filter tips are not included and sit separately in the same category. Keep the booklet dry, since damp paper tears sooner and the gum line grips less well.
At Avalon Magic Plants
The paper category also stocks Mascotte Original and Brown, RAW Organic King Size Slim, GreenGo and The Bulldog papers, along with loose filter tips. Every order is packed and shipped discreetly.
