Calculator CL-300 BK: a scale with a calculator in the lid
Nearly every pocket scale has a lid that protects the display and doubles as a weighing tray. On Balance took that idea a step further with the CL-300: the outside of the lid carries a complete calculator with its own keys. Closed up, the whole thing reads as an ordinary pocket calculator, which makes storing it a good deal less conspicuous.
It weighs from 0 to 300 grams in increments of 0.01 gram, which covers herbs, tea, jewellery and anything else where a kitchen scale reading in whole grams is too coarse. The display is backlit, so it stays readable in a dim room. The tare button subtracts the weight of a dish or bag from the total, and after a period of inactivity the scale shuts itself down to save power. Overload protection is built in, and two AAA batteries are included. The scale itself weighs 154 grams and measures 122 x 69 x 27 mm, small enough for an inside pocket.
Keeping it accurate
Put the scale on a flat, solid surface rather than your knee or a wobbly table; that is the single most common cause of odd readings. Keep the platform clean and dry and never push down on it to straighten something out. If the readings drift over time, run the calibration routine with a suitable calibration weight. Store it with the lid closed so the platform stays free of dust.
