LS-100 Lite mini scale: 100 grams down to hundredths
The LS-100 belongs to the Lite range from On Balance, pocket scales built to take up little room while staying easy to read. Closed it is a flat case of about 9.7 by 5.8 centimetres and just under two centimetres thick; with batteries fitted the whole thing weighs around 72 grams. Pull the lid off, turn it over and you have an extra tray, so powder or a small item never has to sit loose on the platform.
The load cell reaches 100 grams and reads in 0.01 gram steps, on a platform of roughly 5.9 by 5.2 centimetres. Besides grams you can cycle through ounces, carats, grains, troy ounces and pennyweight, six modes in all. The blue backlit LCD measures about 31 by 11 millimetres, which keeps the digits sharp on a badly lit table. There is overload protection, and after roughly three minutes of inactivity the scale shuts itself down to save the batteries. Two AAA cells come in the box.
Weighing accurately
Put the scale on a flat, stable surface and let it settle on zero after switching on. Weighing in a dish or on a slip of paper? Use the tare button so only the contents count. At hundredths of a gram, draughts and vibration show up straight away, so close the window or switch off the extractor fan for a moment. Wipe the platform clean and dry after use and store the scale with the lid on, keeping dust off the cell.
