Atlanta 100 x 0.01: precision in pocket format
The Atlanta by USA Weight is a classic flip-lid scale: closed it takes up about as much space as a cigarette pack, open it becomes a proper precision scale. On the road the lid protects the stainless steel platform, and during weighing it stands upright so the display stays easy to read. The full set of instructions is printed on the inside of that lid, including the steps for taring and calibrating.
Capacity runs to 100 grams and the scale reads in increments of 0.01 gram. That combination is meant for small quantities: jewellery, coins, seeds, herbs and anything else where a few hundredths of a gram matter. For a one-kilo parcel it is the wrong tool, and a kitchen scale will serve you better.
Using the buttons
Three buttons sit under the display. ON/OFF powers the scale up; give it a moment to settle on a level surface before you put anything on the platform. TARE zeroes out the weight of a dish or a bag so you measure only the contents. MODE cycles through the weighing units, which include grams, ounces, troy ounces, pennyweight, grain and carat. Leave it idle and the scale switches itself off after about a minute to save the batteries.
Care and accuracy
Two AAA batteries are included, so you can start straight away. Always weigh on a firm, level surface away from draughts: at hundredths of a gram, an open window is enough to make the reading wander. If the display drifts out of step over time, recalibrate the scale with a suitable calibration weight, following the instructions inside the lid. This scale is intended for personal use and is not certified for trade.
Avalon Magic Plants carries more scales in this size range, along with grinders and storage tins that pair well with them.
