CK-20: a milligram scale by On Balance

Put a few hundred milligrams on an ordinary kitchen scale and the display simply stays at zero. The CK-20 starts exactly where that scale gives up: it weighs up to 20 grams and reads out per 0.001 gram. That is the range you work in with herbs, resins, jewellery or loose stones, where a tenth of a gram is already far too coarse.

The scale uses a precision sensor and a backlit LCD, so the figures stay legible in a dimly lit room. A built-in weight limit protects the sensor against overloading, and the unit switches itself off after three minutes of inactivity. Besides grams you can weigh in oz, ozt, dwt, ct and gn, which helps when you think in troy ounces or carats. On Balance covers this model with a three year warranty.

What is in the box

You get two 10 gram calibration weights, a weighing tray and a pair of tweezers. Those weights let you calibrate the CK-20 yourself, which is worth doing regularly on any milligram scale, certainly after the unit has been moved or left unused for a while. The two AAA batteries are included as well. Place the scale on a flat, stable surface and keep it away from draughts, because at this resolution the airflow from a window or extractor fan already shows up on the display.
