Tuff-Weigh 200 x 0.01 g: a precision scale by On Balance
In terms of range the Tuff-Weigh sits between the other two models in the series. With 200 grams of capacity and steps of 0.01 gram it handles a single gram and a generous portion alike, so there is no swapping scales halfway. The series comes in orange, green and black; this is the black one. The case is hard plastic with rubber grips, which keeps it steady in the hand and stops it breaking at the first fall.
The lid detaches and, turned over, acts as the weighing tray: a stainless steel plate of 76 by 59 millimetres. Closed, that same lid keeps scratches and dust off the platform. Display digits measure 14 millimetres, larger than on most pocket scales, and the mode key moves through six units. Auto power saving is adjustable, so the unit will not shut down while you are still portioning. Overload protection is built in as well. On Balance gives a three year warranty on this model.

Getting a reading you can trust
Set the scale on a flat, hard surface and let it settle at zero after switching on. If you use a dish or bag, press tare before filling it so only the contents are counted. Place the load in the centre of the tray and keep your hands off the scale while you read. Draughts, vibration and a sloping table are the usual reasons for jumping figures. Clean the tray with a dry or slightly damp cloth and never submerge the scale.
