DZT-100-BK: a precision scale with an oversized tray
The DZT-100-BK is a familiar shape given a new twist: a compact scale paired with a strikingly roomy expansion tray. That tray works as a windbreak and as a work surface, and when you put the scale away it slides straight into it. Closed, the unit measures roughly 12.7 by 7.6 centimetres and stands just under two centimetres tall. With batteries fitted it weighs a little over a hundred grams, so you barely notice it in a bag.
The weighing platform is stainless steel and measures about 7.5 by 6.5 centimetres, more generous than most pocket scales this size. The load cell reads up to 100 grams in steps of 0.01 gram, which suits herbs, seeds, powders, jewellery and coins. Beyond grams you can switch to ounces, troy ounces, pennyweight, carats and grains: six modes in total. The blue backlit LCD stays readable on a dark table. There is a tare function and a calibration mode, and after a short spell of inactivity the scale shuts itself down. Two AAA batteries come in the box.
Getting an accurate reading
Set the scale on a flat, stable surface away from draughts and let it settle on zero after switching on. Weighing in a dish, press tare first so only the contents register. Never load the platform with more than a hundred grams. Wipe the stainless platform dry and clean, and slide the scale back into its tray after use so dust stays off the cell.
