NUTRI-1000 Mini: a kilo weighed to a tenth of a gram
The NUTRI-1000 belongs to the On Balance nutrients range and was designed for measuring out and mixing nutrient solutions. It covers 0 to 1000 grams in steps of 0.1 gram, a range that sits neatly between a kitchen scale and a fine precision balance: roomy enough for a dose of fertiliser or a jar of herbs, still fine enough to show a tenth of a gram of difference.
A hinged cover stays attached to the body and shields the platform while the scale is in a drawer. Flip it open and it works as a weighing tray, and an expansion tray comes in the box for larger amounts. The platform itself is stainless steel, so a wipe with a dry cloth keeps it clean. The LCD has green backlighting and stays readable in a dimly lit grow space. Overload protection is built in, and two AAA batteries are supplied. The unit measures roughly 12.8 x 7.8 x 2 cm and weighs around 130 grams with batteries fitted, so it disappears into a drawer or a bag.
Keeping the readings honest
Put the scale on a flat, solid surface. A wobbly table or your own knee is by far the most common reason for odd results. If you work with liquid feeds, keep the platform dry and wipe up spills straight away, because dried fertiliser attacks the finish. Never press down on the platform to straighten something out, and do not leave heavy objects sitting on it between uses. If the readings start drifting, recalibrate with a matching calibration weight.
