Myco MY-600-BK: a pocket scale with a 600 gram range

Most pocket scales stop at 100 or 200 grams. The MY-600-BK keeps going to 600, which saves you from splitting things into portions when you weigh larger bags of herbs or a batch of substrate. The step size is 0.1 gram, fine enough for most work around the house but clearly coarser than the hundredths offered by the MY-100 in the same series. Pick your model according to what you weigh most often.

The housing is the one used by its smaller sibling: an oval body of 9.3 by 6.1 centimetres that sits well in the hand, under two centimetres thick and around 65 grams with batteries. The 5.5 by 5.2 centimetre platform hides under a detachable lid. That lid keeps the platform clean in a bag and works as a tray once removed, after which the tare button cancels out its weight. The scale has four weighing modes and switches itself off after a while, so the two AAA batteries do not drain when you forget to turn it off.

What it is good for

With a 600 gram range you can weigh a whole bag of loose tea or herbs in one go, a jar with its contents, or a handful of small parts. For doses under a gram a finer scale makes more sense, since anything below 0.1 gram falls outside what this model shows. Place it on a flat surface, wait for the display to settle at zero and keep draughts and vibration away.
