RLD-20 RELOADR - 20 x 0.001 g

RLD-20 Reloadr: a milligram scale from On Balance

The RLD-20 was designed for weighing powder charges when reloading ammunition, a job where a tenth of a gram is far too coarse. Hence the scale it works at: up to 20 grams, read out per 0.001 gram. You can switch between grams and grains, up to 300 grain, which helps when your load data is written down in grains. Outside the shooting range it is simply a precision scale for anything too light for a kitchen model, from herbs and resins to jewellery and small parts.

The housing is hard plastic with rubber grips, so the unit stays put and survives being knocked about. Its display uses extra-large digits on a blue backlight and stays readable in a dim room. The weighing platform measures 77 by 59 millimetres. On top of that you get a tare function, selectable auto-off, linear calibration and overload protection. The scale itself weighs 163 grams and measures 14.2 x 8.5 x 2.4 centimetres, small enough to disappear into a drawer or a bag.

What is in the case

• Two 10 gram calibration weights
• A powder pan and a pair of tweezers
• An anti-vibration mat
• Two AAA batteries

Everything sits in a hard storage case, and On Balance backs this model with a three year warranty.

Calibrating and setting up

Calibrate the scale with the supplied weights before putting it to serious use, and repeat that after moving it or leaving it unused for a long stretch. Place it on a flat, stable surface and keep it out of draughts: at this resolution, air moving from a window or an extractor fan already shows up on the display. Avalon Magic Plants also stocks the CK-20 and larger On Balance models for the gram range. Every order is packed and shipped discreetly.
