Dope or Nope opiates test: colour and reaction speed as the clue

The kit is a glass ampoule of reagent plus a card showing the colours you might see. No equipment is involved and the whole thing takes a few minutes. Use a small sample: the ratio between sample and reagent is set up for exactly that, and too much material only makes the result harder to read.

With this test the colour is not the only signal; the speed at which that colour appears counts too. Different substances in the opiate group turn the reagent in their own way, some faster and some slower, and that difference is part of reading the result. Reagent tests like this exist to expose market adulteration, in other words to show whether a sample contains something other than what it was sold as. They are no substitute for laboratory analysis and give no measurement, so how much of a substance is present stays unknown.

How to run the test

  1. Take the ampoule with the test reagent
  2. Break the ampoule and add a small sample
  3. Rotate the top you have just removed
  4. Place the top back on the ampoule
  5. Compare the colour with the supplied table

What the result does and does not tell you

If you see a colour listed on the card, the sample probably contains (part of) the matching substance. That does not make the sample pure, and certainly not safe: something the test cannot recognise may be present as well. If no reaction occurs, or the colour differs from the chart, none of the substances in the table is involved, and what is actually there remains unknown. That may be harmless and it may be dangerous, so throw such a sample away. Dope or Nope neither condones nor condemns use, but recognises that banned substances are used regardless of their legal status. There is no safe drug use, and no rights or guarantees can be derived from a result.

Safety and storage

The ampoule contains a strong acid. Keep the kit out of reach of children, avoid contact with eyes and skin because it causes irritation, and rinse with plenty of water after contact. Store the test cool and dark, below 35 degrees, in its original packaging. Avalon Magic Plants also stocks the Dope or Nope general test, the heroin purity test, the cocaine test, the MDMA test and the speed test. Every order is shipped discreetly.
