MDMA Purity Test by Dope or Nope: a colour reaction in an ampoule
The kit consists of a glass ampoule holding reagent and a card that shows the possible colours. No equipment is needed and the test takes a couple of minutes. Use a small sample: the ratio between sample and reagent is set up for that, and too much material actually makes the result harder to read.
Reagent tests work through discolouration. The reagent reacts with the substance in the sample, and both the colour and the speed of the change say something about its content. Tests like this exist to make market adulteration visible, in other words to show whether a sample contains something other than what it was sold as. They replace no laboratory analysis and produce no measured value.
How to run the test
- Take the ampoule with the test reagent
- Break the ampoule and add a small sample
- Rotate the cap you just removed
- Place the cap back on the ampoule
- Compare the colour with the supplied table
What the result does and does not tell you
If you see a colour that appears on the card, the sample probably contains (part of) the matching substance. That does not mean the sample is pure, and it certainly does not mean it is safe: something the test does not recognise may be present as well. If no reaction occurs, or the colour differs, none of the substances in the table are involved, though what is actually in there stays unknown. Throw such a sample away. Dope or Nope neither condones nor condemns use, but recognises that banned substances get used regardless. There is no safe use of drugs, and no rights or guarantees can be derived from the result.
Safety and storage
The ampoule contains a strong acid. Keep the kit out of reach of children, avoid contact with eyes and skin since it causes irritation, and rinse with plenty of water after contact.
