Cocaine Identification: a reagent test by Dope or Nope
A powder tells you nothing by sight. A reagent test does tell you something: the liquid in the ampoule turns a different colour for different substances, and the speed at which that colour appears varies as well. By comparing the colour after the reaction with the chart supplied, you get an indication of what your sample contains. Tests like this exist because of market pollution, where powders regularly turn out to hold something other than what was sold.
Using it takes very little time. Take the ampoule with the reagent, break it open and add a small sample. Put the top back on the ampoule, wait for the reaction and hold the colour next to the table on the card. If you see a colour that appears on the chart, the sample probably contains at least some of the substance listed there.
What the test does and does not tell you
The result is an indication, never a guarantee. The test says nothing about how much active substance is present, and nothing about other components it does not recognise. If there is no colour reaction or an unexpected one, all you know is that the substances on the chart are absent. What is in there instead stays unknown, which may be harmless but may not be. Dope or Nope neither condones nor disapproves of drug use, but recognises that banned substances get used regardless of their legal status. There is no safe use of drugs.
Safety and storage
The ampoule contains a strong acid. Keep the test out of reach of children and avoid contact with eyes and skin, as it may cause irritation. Rinse with plenty of water if contact occurs.
