Tuff-1000 scale: a full kilo in steps of 0.1 gram
Where most pocket scales stop at one or two hundred grams, the Tuff-1000 carries on to a thousand. That wider range costs a little fineness: the smallest step is 0.1 gram rather than 0.01. Anyone portioning herbs, incense or powders will find a tenth of a gram plenty, while a few grams read to the hundredth call for the Tuff-100 from the same series instead.
The housing is green hard plastic, edged with rubber along the corners and sides. That keeps the scale settled in your hand and lets it survive a slide off the kitchen counter. Click the lid off, turn it over and it becomes the stainless steel weighing tray, 76 by 59 millimetres. Closed up the unit measures roughly 14 x 8.4 x 2.3 centimetres and weighs around 185 grams with batteries, so a coat pocket takes it comfortably. The mode key cycles six units: grams, ounces, troy ounces, pennyweights, carats and grains. Display digits stand about 14 millimetres tall under an orange backlight. Two AAA batteries are included.

Taring and auto shut off
The tare key returns the reading to zero while something is already sitting on the tray. Put your dish or bag down first, press tare, then fill it, and the display shows only the contents. How long the scale stays awake without activity is up to you, from a few seconds to three minutes or not at all, which saves batteries without cutting out halfway through a weighing. Overload protection guards against damage if something heavy lands on the tray by accident. If the figure keeps wavering, look at the surface first: a flat, solid table out of the draught does more for your reading than any setting.
