DX-100 mini scale: 100 grams down to hundredths
The DX-100 belongs to the On Balance DX range, a series of flat pocket scales. The case measures roughly 12 by 7.4 centimetres and is only a centimetre and a half thick, so it slips into an inside pocket or a drawer without catching on anything. With batteries in place the whole thing weighs about 91 grams. The lid slides across and covers the platform alone: the display stays visible, so you can read the scale even when it is half closed.
The load cell reads up to 100 grams in steps of 0.01 gram, which puts this scale firmly in small-quantity territory: herbs, seeds, powders, jewellery, coins. The platform measures 6.2 by 6.2 centimetres and is made of plastic, big enough for a small dish or a folded slip of paper. Its display is backlit, so the figures stay legible on a poorly lit table. The DX-100 also switches itself off to save the batteries and carries overload protection. Two AAA batteries supply the power.
Getting an accurate reading
Put the scale on a flat, stable surface and let it settle on zero after switching on. When you weigh inside a dish or on a slip of paper, press tare first so only the contents count. Never load more than a hundred grams onto the platform and avoid pressing down on it. Keep the platform clean and dry and store the scale with the lid closed, which keeps dust off the cell.
